Get Reliable Dental Braces Treatment in Ottawa

Orthodontists use braces to straighten your teeth. They can be made of metal, ceramic or plastic materials. Metal braces are the most common type. If you are concerned that you may have an allergy to a specific metal, please inform us during your first appointment.

Clear braces are often made of ceramic materials and are less visible than metal braces. Generally, ceramic braces require a little more maintenance because they are more fragile than metal braces. Patients who choose clear braces must maintain excellent oral hygiene to help keep the brackets from discolouring.

Advancements in technology and materials have allowed orthodontic treatment using conventional braces to be less invasive, less visible and more comfortable to patients. And, in addition to having a smile that you’ll want to show off, giving you a bump in confidence, your oral health will also get a boost when you can properly clean your teeth. So, if you think a treatment with braces can benefit you and you live in the Ottawa area, contact us for more information or book an appointment today!

Types of Braces

Dr Sharaf has used a variety of brackets over the years and continue to offer treatments to his patients using the Damon bracket system, the GC bracket system as well as the standard twin bracket system.  The twin bracket is a standard stainless-steel bracket that uses coloured elastics to hold the wire in place. Dr. Sharaf will use the best system depending on your case. This will help with the proper alignment of your teeth. Once the braces are placed, we also explain to our patients in detail how they are supposed to maintain them.

How Long Do I Need to Wear Braces

The duration of wearing braces depends upon the individual patient’s dental condition. There is no standard timeline for wearing braces. It depends on several factors like age, dental condition, type of treatment you are receiving, etc. Braces are usually worn between 1 to 3 years for most individual cases.

What Happens after the Braces Are Removed

Once your braces are removed, the orthodontist will give your teeth a thorough polishing. Some x-rays might be taken to examine the straightened teeth. In case your wisdom teeth appear after the braces removal, they might suggest you get the wisdom teeth removed to avoid your teeth from shifting position again. Part of post-braces care also includes wearing a retainer full time. Retainers help in letting your teeth set correctly and avoid shifting.
